I absolutely love this photo of Patrice’s hair! So beautiful. Thank you for entering our Natural Hair Care Contest.

Patrice’s Natural Hair Care Regimen:

I use henna to color my hair once a month.  I usually use Jamila henna and mix it with freshly squeezed strained Lemon Juice, freshly brewed strong black tea.  I used to use some vinegar too but the smell was too much for me and it works just fine without it.  I use a waterproof hair cutting cover with the longer part facing and rubber gloves while I put it in my hair.  I use a very course comb to help with the coverage.  After I have everything covered I roll it up in a bun and clip it up.  I put a shower cap over it and a terry turban over that and sit down for a good movie.  I tend to keep it on for at least 4 hours.  My husband helps a little by making sure that I get everything covered and cleaning off my ears and my neck after I am done.  I decided to use henna after my asthma became worse.  Regular hair dye smells too strong for me and it doesn’t cover as well as henna does.  It leaves my hair smelling like wet hay which is much nicer than the terrible chemical smell hair dye smells like.  I was telling my Grandma about it and she said she used to use Henna to dye her hair when she was young so I guess it runs in the family.

I have included a picture where I was fire dancing.  It looks a bit like my hair is on fire but it wasn’t.  It is a fire staff I balance on my head.
