Hi! My name is Khadija

Hi! My name is Khadija

Hi! My name is Khadija. I’d love introduce myself, as you may or may not know me. I’m the brand owner here at Henna Sooq with my amazing husband, Jamal. Over the years we have grown with you and Henna Sooq has blossomed. This journey has been amazing. We are constantly becoming and evolving. When I started running Henna Sooq, it started with a henna body art class and I was completely hooked. At the time I also had 4 children, aged 6 years old and under. I wanted to figure out something I could do for myself while still being able to stay home with my little ones. Henna Sooq was perfect! It would allow me to make my own schedule and be my own boss! Here we are now 13 years later and my 4 littles one are definitely not little anymore. We now have 6 beautiful children with the oldest being 19 and the youngest being 10. This business has taught me a lot. It has taught me how to be a woman, a caring human being, better at my communication and to give from myself fully without expectations. I’m always a work in progress but without Henna Sooq I wonder how I could even come close to being the person I am today. I tied in my expertise of Henna for Hair coloring with Henna Body Art services and it was like the perfect marriage has been made. Henna for me has been the tool to bring people from all walks of life, passions, cultures, races, faiths and all those beautiful smiles know affirms that I’m doing...

Good bye, Henna Chai. Hello, Rituals of Henna.

Good bye, Henna Chai. Hello, Rituals of Henna.

It’s with both happiness and sadness that we say good bye to Henna Chai. Not a full goodbye though. What does this all mean? Well let’s start at the beginning. Since 2007, when I founded Henna Chai, this was an event that focused on henna, socializing (hence the chai part of the name, which is a spiced Indian tea) and learning through others about the art of henna. Initially actually I was going to call my event Spring Fling but there was another event that had the same name, which I didn’t realize. So at first I was bummed but then Henna Chai came along and it fit perfectly. As you know I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and it is destiny. That was almost ten years ago and whereas I’ve loved and accepted the name Henna Chai, it felt a little stuck. Like it didn’t fully describe what I was doing and didn’t really expand far enough. I don’t know how to explain it but I loved it but it wasn’t perfect. Someone told me the other day that Henna Chai sounded more like a product then an event. That’s kind of true, now that I think about it. We need to make a Henna Chai shampoo bar or some type of Henna Chai product. Right? I didn’t want to just give the name up nor everything I’ve done so far to build that event up. It started off as just a simple, small get together and has evolved over time. A few years it was a full henna weekend at a retreat...

2017 has been about relationships

2017 has been about relationships

What a wonderful 2017. It’s not really like the year disappears. I mean honestly?! It’s just life flowing into the next. I do believe the New Year’s gives a lot of people focus, hope and a means to start planning the future.  Just remember that everything you’ve learned and been through for every year past is this person you’ve become and that’s just amazing! It means you are becoming and evolving. You are everything and more. I also recognize and feel compassion towards others that may have had to go through some things that they hated in 2017 and I do hope that 2018 gives them (and this may even be you) a sense of renewal, freedom, self expression and strength. To me this is my every day. Each and every day is an opportunity to wake up, to rise up and to start fresh. This past 2017 has been an amazing year. I have never felt a stronger sense of community. A sense of women coming together. Women empowering one another and supporting one another. I saw the relationships that were built. The hearts that opened up. The love shared. The energy has been phenomenal. Man, I want to cry, just reflecting on how amazing each and every woman that I’ve been so lucky to have met this year. To have hugged, laughed and shared with. I truly love each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. I ‘m not perfect and I’m going to keep working on myself. I hope to remain humble enough to always accept my short comings so that I...
