It can be very frustrating and confusing when indigo doesn’t take on your hair. It’s common that we hear from clients regarding indigo concerns, especially those just starting out.
There can be a number of reason this occurs:
-Existing product build up on the hair
-Indigo not dye released
-Indigo dye demise
-Indigo not covered while on the hair well enough
-Using Organic Indigo rather the Indigo for hair. Indigo for hair has a higher dye content and offers better grey coverage
-Conditioner used after henna and before indigo
-Resistant grey hair (may require more than one treatment)
-Resistant hair in general (may require more than one treatment)
-Acids added to indigo (indigo does not like acidic liquids)
-Indigo not left on long enough
-Shampooing or oiling after indigo paste removal can wash it out
-Not oxidised enough. The colour shall deepen 2-4 days after paste removal
-No salt, or not enough salt

Hi. Oh okay understandable. It happens 🙂
Please make sure your henna always sits 3-4 hours and each application stays in the hair 3-4 hours and not less. You can add aloe vera powder to your recipe as well. Hibiscus can be used in the henna when you want to do a more red recipe or use alone as it’s own conditioning or hair treatment recipe. We have some hibiscus recipes here on our blog too.
Hi Kim. Oh no!! We’re so sorry to hear this happened to you. I’m not sure if you’re aware but henna and cassia are two different herbs. I did see a video on youtube recently that a person was using cassia and then indigo but I’m not even sure how that worked to color her hair black as that doesn’t work usually ever. You usually end up with green hair. I’m wondering if you saw that video or took information to create a black tone from another website?
For sure you can’t use cassia with indigo. You 100% will end up with green hair. To fix what happened you can use henna and indigo to go back over your hair to color it again. I know it’s been bout 2 weeks but did you try something since then? If you ever do need a quicker reply we would be more then happy to help you by phone at 410-579-4543.
Hello
I have question about indigo.
I bought ready mixed organic henna and indigo mix for hair.
I followed the instruction on the box.
I left the mixture in my hair fir 3 hours but my greys did not take the colour.
Can I apply only indigo over grays? Will it leave my hair looking green or will I get dark chocolate/ Black I am after?
Thank you
Hello
You may need to create your own mix of henna and indigo to get the right color tone. We have a color chart online on our shop site: http://www.hennasooq.com
It could leave your hair with a green hue if you don’t use henna as well. Let us know if you have had a chance to try it again.
What about using Aloe Vera powder for the moisture?
Hello
Oh no. Sorry to hear. What do you wash your color treatments out with?
Welcome! Let us know how it’s going when you have a chance with your henna hair coloring. 🙂
Hello Helen. Sorry for my delayed reply. I was so behind in replies for our blog.
For brown tones you definitely need indigo as well. Did you end up trying the products and how did everything come out?
