Hi everyone! I hope everyone is well! Ramadan Mubarak to all who are fasting in this month of Ramadan.

Business is competitive, and a lot of work. In the henna business overall I can honestly say, that most clients are amazing! They are! I am speaking the truth from my heart. People who love natural herbs and the beautification of the woman (and men too!!) are some amazing people to meet and deal with. There is ALWAYS a smile involved with henna and herbs!

On the competitive side of things, there are a lot of henna businesses out there. Some are professional henna artists, and we just have to figure out ways to get ourselves noticed! There is a lot of work in our area though, which I am happy about (since we are new to the area).

Then you have your online businesses that sell henna and herbal products. Do you ever wonder about certain things and why they are the way they are? Here are a few notes and tips I want to point out.

  • Henna that is labelled body art quality means that the powder is of a pure quality and contains no other additives nor chemicals. It also means the product can be used for body art.
  • Natural herbs (such as shikakai, amla powder, cassia obovata, indigo etc…) for hair can’t be  labelled as body art quality because it is not used for body art at all, and that wouldn’t make sense to say that. Our herbal powders are all pure and 100% free of chemicals and additives. We test each new crop before selling it to our clients as we always say: “We want for others, what we would want for ourselves”.
  • Why is some henna labelled for hair use and not others? Well some online shops might carry a lesser quality henna powder that isn’t as finely sifted as what they are selling for professional henna artists. Or sometimes it is an older crop of henna powder, that needs to be put for hair usage. Please be sure to ask for details or look for them in the product’s description. Our henna powders if marked for hair usage usually are a crop that is one year old. Professional henna artists are usually always using the latest crop of henna powder for body art. Herbal crops can be 2-3 years old and still used for hair usage, when stored in proper conditions (cool, dark place or for some herbs the freezer).
  • Why are some natural hair care products/herbs so cheap at some shops? Sometimes a person is NOT even importing their own herbs. They are going to their local Indian shop and purchasing larger quantities of herbal powders. WE DO NOT PRACTICE THIS! When this is done, we do not know the date of the crop nor know how fresh the herb is. It could be old, and MOST likely it is stored under poor conditions such as being out on the shelf collecting dust, or being in sun light. The shops that sell these products do not SPECIALIZE in a high quality henna or herbal products. It can be clearly seen out in the open as they don’t even store it in a cool, dark place, at a minimum. These herbal powders in those shops are SO CHEAPLY priced because they aren’t a very high quality product as we are led to believe. So when you think you are getting a deal, please think again. Any of us can go into a shop (if it is near us of course) and buy the same products. But those specializing in henna and herbal hair products are importing and testing these herbs out themselves to ensure we are getting the BEST!

These are just a few tips we’d like to share with you so that you can make a more informed decision when shopping for herbal hair powders. Thanks!
