At last year’s DC Ubiquitous Hair and Heath Show, Chrisette Michele was one the performers, and I heard that she liked henna.
It was a really busy show and I was mainly sitting doing henna, while staff sold products.
Next thing you know, I look up and there’s Chrisette Michele! I tried to get staff’s attention to let them know she was there, as I was already with a client in the middle of applying henna. But we were too slow and she walked away.
I was pretty devastated at how fast that happened and that we missed that window of opportunity. Chrisette then stopped at a booth a few spots down.
I had during this time completed the henna I was doing. Shawn was at the booth next to us at Jane Carter, and he started to tell me to go and talk to Chrisette. I was a nervous wreck. I don’t like barging into people’s space or being a pushy sales person. He kept encouraging me.
So I decided to grab a couple of boxes of Red Raj to give to her. I was trying to scope the crowd around her and see if there would be a window of opportunity. They had her on a very tight schedule. Others in the crowd were still encouraging me, and trying to make some room for me to squeeze through.
Finally! I got through and I handed her those boxes of Red Raj. I believe I stuttered out an introduction, and told her a bit about us, but I was stumbling around with my words. I managed to get this photo.
I hope she had a chance to use them, and liked the Red Raj. I know she would love this henna!
The lesson: Don’t ever give up! Should the window of opportunity come by and you miss it, make your own. Put on your big girl panties, and head over there and talk to people. Engage them. You already believe in what you do, so make sure everyone else knows too. You can do it!
Mark you calenders for DC’s next Ubiquitous Show: August 22-23, 2015. We hope to see you there!
Great Lesson. Next time opportunity’s window is open, I will jump right through.
