The Day I ran behind a celebrity

The Day I ran behind a celebrity

At last year’s DC Ubiquitous Hair and Heath Show, Chrisette Michele was one the performers, and I heard that she liked henna. It was a really busy show and I was mainly sitting doing henna, while staff sold products. Next thing you know, I look up and there’s Chrisette Michele! I tried to get staff’s attention to let them know she was there, as I was already with a client in the middle of applying henna. But we were too slow and she walked away. I was pretty devastated at how fast that happened and that we missed that window of opportunity. Chrisette then stopped at a booth a few spots down. I had during this time completed the henna I was doing. Shawn was at the booth next to us at Jane Carter, and he started to tell me to go and talk to Chrisette. I was a nervous wreck. I don’t like barging into people’s space or being a pushy sales person. He kept encouraging me. So I decided to grab a couple of boxes of Red Raj to give to her. I was trying to scope the crowd around her and see if there would be a window of opportunity. They had her on a very tight schedule. Others in the crowd were still  encouraging me, and trying to make some room for me to squeeze through. Finally! I got through and I handed her those boxes of Red Raj. I believe I stuttered out an introduction, and told her a bit about us, but I was stumbling around with my words. I managed to get...

Summertime Henna Party

Summertime Henna Party

It was really hot this weekend, and henna was in full swing. The stains were amazing due to the heat. Did you know that henna loves heat? It gets even darker when the temperature is really warm. As a henna artist, either you’re crating your own tent, table and chairs to the event, or you’re lucky enough to have a set up ready for you. I prefer the second option. Summer Time Henna Tips Be sure to stay hydrated. Freezing extra water bottles helps through those long days. Keep a cooler with food, and snacks you prepared ahead of time. Preferably a cooler on wheels. It’s important to stay away from all the “crappy” junk, and soda. This will just make you peak, and crash. We know outdoor venues don’t always sell the best foods (healthier options). I’ll also post the protein ball recipe we make for our team, and family to snack on. Those will really keep you moving, and you won’t feel sluggish as you work long hours in the heat. Keep your henna on ice. I use a small lunch cooler that is easy to carry surrounded by ice packs. Make sure your henna bag is fully stocked. Have all your design books prepared, and organized ahead of time. Have all your contact information and after care readily available. Be careful with your lemon-sugar spray/sealant as on bad days bees will be heading your way. You can optionally prepare small bags containing a cotton ball soaked with lemon-sugar solution inside, with your after care and contact info attached (small business card size works). These can be...
