Henna Workshops

Outline of “Introduction to Henna” workshop:
-We will discuss the origins of henna and its historical uses in culture and religion. We will talk about current emerging trends and traditions of henna in the West.
-Safety Issues: How to tell real henna from “black henna”.
-Henna Applicators: A live demonstration and interactive lesson on how to roll your own henna cone, and how to fill it with henna paste. We will also discuss other types of henna applicators used by henna artists around the world.
-Recipes and Mixing: A live demonstration of how to mix henna, our secret recipe, and explanation of henna chemistry.
-Elements of Design: A breakdown of different elements in traditional henna design, focusing on design symbolism, and styles of different regions.
– Henna Demonstration: A volunteer received a sample design to give students a chance to observe the technique of henna application.
– Hands on practice: Students are given the opportunity to practice creating their own designs on reusable paper, on themselves, or on each other.
Supplies Included: Henna cone for each student, 100 grams of body art quality henna powder, books for browsing, practice sheets, design sheets, and henna recipe and instructions.
Fee: $85.00 CAD per student
Deposit required: $25 CAD non-refundable. Complete payment due day of workshop.

– Apllicateurs pour henné : Une démonstration vivante et interactive sur comment rouler votre propre cône à henné, et comment le remplir de pâte. Nous parlerons aussi des autres types d’applicateurs utilisés par les artistes du henné dans le monde entier.
– Recettes et mélanges : Une démonstration vivante de la manière de mélanger le henné, notre recette secréte, et l’explication sur la chimie du henné.
– Elements de dessins : Un résumé des différents éléments des motifs traditionnels pour henné, particuliérement le symbolisme des dessins, et les styles des différentes régions.
– Démonstration de henné : un volontaire recevra un échantillon de dessin pour donner aux participants une chance d’observer la technique d’application du henné.
– En pratique : Les participants auront la possibilité de créer leur propre motif sur papier, sur eux-même, ou sur les autres personnes. Nous pourons également décorer des biscuits en forme de main en utilisant du glaçage de la même manière que nous appliquerions le henné.
