Here’s her story:
I go by Kusare or Phrizzball on hair forums so that is what I am known as. I just celebrated my “nappiversary” in December. Truthfully I went natural because of laziness of relaxing and didn’t realize all my relaxed hair was gone until I was sporting a decent sized fro. I can be so absentminded at times. I recently got into converting to a more natural hair care. Henna is my first step, up next I would like to try my hand with Ayurveda treatments. I always wanted to dye my hair but since my hair is a deep jet black and I’m scared of the damage that bleaching your hair can do I never had a chance. With henna though I can do that with no worries. My hair still looks black but given time I’m sure a red highlight will be spotted in the sunlight. I really adore henna and can’t imagine ever stopping with it. Without further ado, my reggie.
My henna regimen
Pre Henna
- Do henna mix the day before
- Do clay mix the day of
- Do bentonite or rasshoul clay treatment on dirty hair
- Hair does not need to be detangled or cleansed but rather fingercombed and spritz with water helps
- If out of clay use herbal shampoo bar
- Opt: Cover the clay with oil of choice
- Leave on until the clay that I put on my face irritates me
- Thoroughly rinse off
Henna Treatment
- Apply henna to hair
- Wrap up with saran wrap and cover with plastic showercap and old scarves
- Sleep in it overnight
- Wash out henna without gloves
- Dunk hair in tub to get the bulk out
- Get in shower and rinse the rest off with a cheapie conditioner
- Apply deep condition and/or oil to hair and do cheap steam treatment with it
- Thoroughly wash it out and detangle hair
- Do a protective style for three days to allow henna to settle
- Oil and moisturize hair every day
- Deep condition hair on third day
- Wear out until weekend
- Wash hair with shampoo bar or non sls shampoo and cowash or deep condition afterward
- Do a oil treatment if hair is still feeling “off”
- Do protective style routine until next henna treatment
Hi, Im thinking about doing a henna. You said Do a oil treatment if hair is still feeling “off”? What do you mean by off? And henna doesnt harm your hair or leave it dry/breaking out at all, right? Also, my hair is the color yours was before the henna. Do you recommend henna-ing alot to get it to be a redder color?
Hello Linda, thank you for posting.
Yes you can do a oil treatment after you do your henna especially if you have dry hair. No henna and all herbs can be drying for some so with the right recipe and regimen it’ll come out perfect! Just get a really good hair oil from us at http://www.hennasooq.com and your henna. If you do multiple henna applications then the color will get richer red tones.
