Hello Ruth. Shikakai is great for cleansing hair. Your hair shouldn’t have an oily build up and pretty clean so that the herbs absorb really well. Yes you could do both seperately as well. Then you can use the cassia and amla after your shikakai cleansing. Just make sure to moisturize really well afterwards. What type of henna did you previously use that didn’t take well?
Hi,
Am having premature white hairs here and there in my head,I want to get rid of it very badly ,,I purchased a powder mixed with amla,,henna ,shikakai and kattha .I dont know how to use this powder and also please suggest me whether this powder mix will help me or do I need to use any other herbs ,,,to prevent my hair from whitening…..
Thanks Khadija for your reply. I believe it was an indian henna, my Indian college room mate had her mom send it to me. When I first did it, I did see some results but I resently did it again before I found this site and I didn’t notice any color change.
Welcome Ruth. Oh okay. I really hope you enjoy our products!
Thank you for your post Usha. Yes mix these herbs together and make sure you have enough henna and amla to color and cover your grey hairs too. Just mix with water water or tea or coffee and then apply onto your hair after you allow the herbs to sit out at least 3-4 hours. Leave this henna and herbal mask on your hair at least 3-4 hours and wash out. You’re greys should be covered. If not then I suggest you use Henna Sooq products for best results at http://www.hennasooq.com
Hi I recently brought some shikakai powder. I have not used it as yet, just wondering should I mix and massage the paste into my hair or smooth it on my scalp and hair and let it sit and do it’s job..Not sure of the technique how to use and apply these herbs..Please advise? ..But even so very excited..I am also thinking of purchasing the alma powder for faster hair growth:)
Hi Ali. Thank you for posting.
If you do it in the shower you can massage it in onto damp hair. If you want you can also leave it as a paste on your hair.
All those herbs can be used in various ways. There aren’t many wrong ways to use it 🙂
Hi

Amla oil and Vatika.

Thank you for your post Maryann. Did you have a question though ? For loosening your curl pattern we recommend you use cassia and that wont change your hair color.
should i still use shitakia and Amia powder;. for hair Grow?
Yes you can but alma powder will nit loosen your curl pattern but tighten your curls back. Alma oil might be a better option for hair growth so that you get to use alma without tightening your curls.

Hello!! I love your responses and site! I find it very encouraging and helpful. But I dont want to use your advice given to others. I would like to know personally for me…lol Having some issues with thinning. Its mostly on the right side. Hasnt gotten out of hand yet, but its on its way if I dont do something quick. I have been treating my hair with a product (commercial) seems to have stopped most of the hairfall, but hasnt helped that much with growth and replacing what was loss. I would like to use a black rinse, but in addition I want to start moving towards your products.. what would you suggest as far a products to begin with? and if I rinse, when and how should I incorporate amla (for growth??) Please help me, if I lose my hair I will be very upset… Thanks so much!
Welcome HealthyMe. Do you have any grey hair? Or want to color your hair for sure? For hair growth and getting your hair growing really nicely I’d recommend our Organic Lush Growth Hair Kit: http://www.hennasooq.com/organic-lush-growth-hair-kit/
oh, thanks… for responding (Yayy!!) lol very little grey… I noticed you mentioned amla for hair growth. would that work for me? and i want jet black hair color….:) what do you suggest???
Oh and will this kit also help to added thickness???
My apologies!! I need something for growth, thickness, dryness and to strenghten.. can you tell Im confused,,, ughhhh…. thanks…
HealthyMe, no worries. That’s what I’m here for.
I’d still recommend the Organic Lush Growth Kit but you’ll also need this kit for jet black tones: http://www.hennasooq.com/lush-brown-for-hair-kit/
These would be great. Read over the description and details of the kits and if you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks!
Wow, thanks. Im happy. Two questions, Lush Brown kit?? which choice do I check off? and when I use the amla kit how soon after or before can I use the lush brown kit??? thanks so much!!
HealthyMe, I’d recommend you use the Moroccan henna along with your indigo. You’ll do a 2 step process for black tones.
You can use the Lush Growth kit after you finish your color treatment. But you can also add at least 3-4 tbsp of amla powder to your henna if you’d like as well. Welcome
Thank you so much… I love this blog…Im on my way to healthy, long amazing hair…thanks to you! 🙂
HealthyMe, THANK YOU !
Hello, I have recently used henna and amla powder in my hair.Mixed both with water and put 1 tsp of musturd oil. Let it sit for an hour and put it in my hair for an hour and washed it with a regular shampoo, reading the above posts looks like i did not do something right. I lost half my hair can u tell me what was wrong
Hello Sumitha
I’m not sure why you have lost so much hair. You mixed it correctly and you didn’t leave it on long. The above post is about shikakai, not henna and amla use.
Hi! I love reading your blog, and your products are wonderful! Happy to have found somewhere where quality powders and oils are available 🙂
Just have a few questions about the shikakai. I’m very interested in using it as a shampoo to help with dandruff, hair strength, and hair growth. I know you also highly recommend amla for hair growth, but the drawback for me is that is tightens the curl pattern, which I’d like to loosen a bit, and mutes the color that henna gives. I have naturally dark hair, but have been using henna to get a nice red glow in the sunlight. Would you recommend, then, using shikakai alone, or perhaps using it with another herb that gives the same benefits as amla but minus the curl and darkening? I was considering brahmi or bhingraj. Could I just mix the powder with water and use it like any other shampoo, or does it need to sit on the hair for a bit?
Thanks!
Thank you for your post Jessalyn.
I’d recommend with your shikakai you can add bhringraj and/or brahmi along with that. But use on it’s own and not with henna as it can dilute the red tones of the henna as well. Have you tried our new Red Raj as yet?
It’s okay to use it directly in the shower as a shampoo. Just let it sit while you’re showering for at least 5 minutes and then wash it out really well.
Hi Khadija, i am going to use the amla, shikakai and henna powder on my hair.my hair is permed and colored with (Naturtint with no ammonia from wholefoods) and would like to use these powders for hair growth but i would like to keep the brown/black tone in my hair can you help?
Hi Khadija, I would like to use all three powders (amla, shikakai and henna) at the same time. also can i make my own amla oil for my hair for daily uses. sorry, i should have added that to the first comment.:>(
Hi Val
Thanks for your message. Yes you can make and use your own amla oil. You can use those herbs but the henna may make your hair red. You may need to either use cassia in this recipe to replace the henna or add indigo to the above recipe to make sure it stay brown/black toned like your natural hair color.
Thanks for your help Khadija.
I order amla, shikahai and henna from xxxx site. The next order will be coming from the web site you gave for one of your post. http://www.hennasooq.com/lush-brown-for-hair-kitthat Khadija, can I use the amla oil(I made) daily in my hair without washing it out? I wish I have know about this site before I order the three powders.
Thanks, thanks and thanks for your help:+)
Hi Khadija, today i used the amla, shikakai and brahmi powder today (2tbsp each).it being to show some signs of burning on the back of my head and in my hair and irritation on my neck (some redness) I Rinsed out the powders immediately and shampooed my hair:^(. Did I used to much? I would love to use these powders or should I use only amla oil for my hair only? Please help if you can:*)
Hi. I am 25 yrs old and i have recently started using Shikakai powder for washing my hair. I use equal quantities(1 tsp each) of shikakai, amla & reetha powder and then make a semi liquid solution. i pour it on my head and leave it for around 2 mins and then wash it.
I opted for this herbal method because in the past one year i started facing hair loss and my hair density has reduced. While applying oil i lose almost 60-70 strands of hair. Also as suggested by many people,i have reduced the use of shampoo to 1-2 times a week since it contains chemicals.
I have opted for the shikakai-amla-reetha powder method since these are natural resources and cannot be harmful.
Will this help in the long run to reduce/stop my hair fall. Please suggest..Also if there is a better way to use these products..
Please advise…
Thank you for your post Fahim.
We also do make handmade shampoo bars here at Henna Sooq which is 100% natural without any chemicals. Yes this would help in the long run unless your hair loss is genetic and/or diet related. Have you seen a specialist as well?
Thanks for your response Khadija.
yes i did see a dermatologist last year. The actual reason for consulting was that i was suffering from alopecia areata(losing patches of hair) There were around 4 circular patches.During this phase itself the hair fall had started. Alhamdulillah the fungul infection got cured. The doc had suggested minoxidil solution i.e Hair 4 u 5%. Bitoin tablets 5mg,and there was another capsule(cant recollect the name)
I applied the same for almost 8-9 months.
Later when i consulted another BAMS doctor, he said the minoxidil soultion’s effect is till the time you use it. So he suggested to use Evion 500 capsule to be mixed with oil and applied on the scalp. Also tablets Raricap,Evion200 & biotin. But this has not really helped.
I feel if go to another specialist he will advice me to use some minoxidil solution.Should i go ahead with that?? Or it would be great if you can suggest somthing apart from Shikakai-reetha-amla like Henna Sooq. Please advise on diet as well.
Eagerly waiting for your advice.
Hello Fahim. Thank you for sending us back a really detailed response.
Yes I’m familiar with that condition of hair loss. I’m so sorry to hear that.
I don’t have enough knowledge of hair loss and your condition to suggest what may be the right choice for you as I’m also not a dermatologist and it’s up to you to discuss that with them directly for best results.
I would like to see you strengthen your hair roots. So yes that combination of herbs would be good but would like you to also add in some brahmi and bhringraj and use all the herbs equally and you can also add cassia if you like to make a complete herbal hair treatment without affecting your color.
I wouldn’t add reetha as that’s more for cleansing. But shikakai is okay with amla as well.
Thanks Khadija.. Thats really really nice of you to get back so actively.. I shall start using brahmi & bhringraj as well with Shikakai and Amla..
Thanks once again. God bless…
You’re more then welcome! Blessings!
Im trying my powders for the first time today, amla and shikakia. I didn’t have coconut oil, but I did use what was available to me. Thr argan oil has been in all night.
NOw, do I just use the powders, rinse and blow dry? Or should I use a leave-in or rinse type of conditioner? It was my understanding that the powders together would be exactly What I needed.
Thank you for your help!
Thank you for your post Sharon. Yes use the powders and then rinse then out. You may need a conditioner but it depends on how your hair feels after the treatment. Definitely do moisturize after the treatment for sure.
Did you try it out and how was the treatment?
really shikakai powder is good for our hair? i have lot of hairfall
