Hi I have a question, I used Henna about a month ago and the root is fading to a copper gold color now, How can I make it black? Can I use just Indigo now if It’s been a month? or what can I do? Thanks
Hi Patsy. Thank you for posting. For black tones and since it’s been awhile since your last henna application and you have new growth, you’ll have to do a two step process. Which is when you do henna first, and then an indigo application second, and this will yield black tones. You can’t use indigo alone at this point as it’s been too long since your last henna application. I hope this helps!
Thank this help. What products to use to get my hair softer, it feels hard after it dries. My hair texture is different in the back. The back is what feels the hardest. I condition it and use a moisturizer, but maybe I am not using the right one. How can I read the others comments on your blog? I only see the ones I write since I been writing to you. You are great, please keep up the great work, without your help I would be lost. Thanks
You’re welcome Patsy. There are lot of comments posted here. You can get a lot of reviews and comments here on our facebook fan page:http://www.facebook.com/pages/Henna-Sooq/19553739018?sk=reviews
I really recommend you use our Argan oil or our Cocoveda hair oils. They are excellent and deeply moisturizing
Hi – I’m getting ready to order some brahmi powder from your website, but I’m not sure of the best way to use it. I’ve read where some people mix it with oils or conditioners and also with amla powder. I use henna regularly, so I dont really want to use amla since it tones down the red from the henna. How should I use the brahmi to get the best result (also, how much and how often should I use on my short hair)? Thanks!
Hi Kelly, thank you for posting on our blog. I’d recommend so as to not affect your color results with henna to do an in between conditioning/ayurvedic treatment with those herbs in between your henna treatments. You can use it every 2-3 weeks, and on short hair it depends on how short is short 🙂 Anywhere from 75 grams to 100 grams, and if it’s shorter and not thick maybe even 50 grams (25 grams is about 1 heaping tbsp)
How often can I use Amla, Shikakai, Brahmi and Henna on my hair in month? Is is ok to use Amla powder or oil weekly? Or which ones can I use more often. My hair is thin and breaking and I’m trying to strengthen and grow it back.
Thank you for posting on our blog Traci. We recommend you do the hair treatments with those herbs every 2-3 weeks for conditioning benefits but if you are just coloring your hair then it’s every 4-6 weeks or as fast as your hair grows. Amla powder and any herbs can be drying so try not to over use them. The hair oil can be used daily or as desired. I’d really recommend you start on this natural regimen with the herbs and hair oils as soon as you can.
hi my hair is brown.. can i apply a raw fresh only amla paste on my hair to tone it down… i want a natural remedy from u.. plz help
Thank you for your post Carol. You should use some henna with amla to tone it down, as I don’t think the amla will tone it down on its own. It usually doesn’t.
Hey! I have amla, cassia, and brahmi, I was going to mix equal portions of both and water till a paste. This is going to be my first time doing this though, should my hair be washed first? wet or dry? or cowashed? or not washed at all? Should I sit under a hooded dryer with it wrapped up or just body heat? and would 2 hours be an ok time? thank you so much ahead of time 🙂 im excited!
Hi Sophia. Thank you for posting on our blog.
It should be relatively clean and it can be damp so that the herbal hair treatment goes on easier. It’ll be much smoother. You can sit under a dryer as well and for a conditioning and strengthening treatment such as what you’re doing you can do that under heat for an hour. No need for 2 hours. 2 hours would be without heat. Welcome!!! Enjoy
Does amla, shikakai n reetha together makes hair black or they just provide lusture, volume to hair im asking this because due to typhoid last year i startd losing my hair n earlier my hair were use to be very healthy and gud n i want my hair back so by applyng the mixture of amla.shikakai n reetha wil i get my hair back n by applyng dis they wil not become black and my original brown colour wil be retained?
Thanks for your post Sana. These herbs could possibly darken your hair sme but not to a black tone. So please do go ahead and use them. You may want to add cassia as well to your mixture for best results.
Hi. I have been hennaing for a while. I like my colour and have been mostly doing roots and a henna gloss for the rest so that it doesn’t change too quickly.
I have hair that is a bit wavy and I’d like to allow it to be as wavy as possible which is why I ordered some Amla powder this time as the Henna seems to relax the wave. However, I don’t want it to affect the colour as I love the colour I get with the henna (Yemeni) alone.
Do you have any tips on how to use Amla to keep my hair wavy, but not change the colour of my henna?
Thank you for your post Cheryl.
You could use amla powder on its own as its own hair treatment to maintain your wave in your hair.
Hi!
I have medium brown hair with about 10-50 % grey (which I until a couple of months ago covered with chemical hair dye). Now I´ve just bought some jamila henna, indigo, katam and amla powder, and I really hope that this will cover my greys (at 31 I´m not att all ready to accept them as they are!) and keep my brown hair colour. I´m thinking of mixing 1/3 of henna, 1/3 of katam and 1/3 of indigo and add just a small amount of amla to keep my curls. Does this sound ok? How (and in which order) do I mix these? How much amla do I add to about 100 grams of henna/indigo/katam powder? For how long should I leave it in my hair?
I´m sorry for all my questions, but I really want this to work… I´m so, so sick of chemical hair dye.
Thank you!
Hi Karin. Thanks for your post.
Yes that recipe sounds good. Ass about 3-4 tbsp of amla powder. Leave it all in your hair 3-4 hours.
You mix the henna with the amla first. Then mix the katam on its own and mix the indigo on its own. Then once all is ready with dye release, mix them altogether and apply. Thanks! I hope this helps
I am putting mendhi for first time and bought mumtaz mendhi for hair and mix with lemon juice, sugar and olive oil. did it this morning and want to apply at night and forgot to put amla powder. I have dark brown hair and some white/grey which I only to want to cover with henna. Is it too late to put amla power to get brown hair instead of reddish hair.
Thank you so much for the fast answer!
Thank you for post Archana. You can add the amla powder but do so right away and then give it about 20 minutes then apply.
Welcome Karin
I am 53. My hair has been permed for a long time and is graying really fast. I am kenyan. How effectively will amla restore or reverse graying? where can I buy it in kenya/ thanks
Hello Mildred. We do ship worldwide and to kenya. I don’t know where in Kenya they would sell amla as we’re located in the USA. Amla powder alone won’t reverse greying especially if it’s genetic and hair does grey as we get older and it can’t be stopped, but usually clients use this to deter greying early on especially premature greying.
But you can use henna, indigo and amla powder to cover greys naturally.
Thanks Khadija for yor prompt reply. I live in Nairobi. How much does the combination you suggest I use cost?
How does one pay and what is the delivery time? Thanks again
Hello Mildred
You’ll have to view those products on our website with cost at http://www.hennasooq.com and you can order online and pay for shipping there as well. You can pay via paypal with reedit card. It takes 7-10 business days
Thank you!
Asslamu-alaikum Khadija Mam,I am 22yrs old Indian, live in Lucknow.I possess good volume of hair and my hair are natural black and thick. But since last 4 months I’m suffering from heavy hair-loss that’s making me really worried.I often use Multani mitti with amla powder to wash my hair.Henna makes my hair dry.So can plz help me n suggest some natural ways to stop hair-loss.Khuda hafiz 🙂
Thank you for your post Azmi and walaikum salaam.
Yes any of the herbs for hair will cause dryness, and you’ll need to make sure to moisturize. Do you use a hair oil regularly?
I’d recommend using our Sukesh Ayurveda for best results: http://www.hennasooq.com/sukesh-ayurveda/
I’m naturally a very very light strawberry blond and used a pure henna/cassia mix for awhile but it oxidized very quickly on my hair and turned a shade of dark brown that looked hideous with my complexion. I had very long hair, almost to my waist, and I had to cut it all off. I was using some heat styling, which probably caused oxidation, but not every day. Now I want my pretty red hair back but am too scared to go back to my henna/cassia gloss because I think it will just oxidize again. Is there anything that can be done to stop that from happening or lighten/brighten the henna back to a light strawberry blond after it has oxidized in the hair shaft?
Thank you for your post Susan.
Which henna were you using before? What were the ingredients? It’s very unusual for the henna and cassia to go brown in color.
You may need to use a different henna powder for more consistent red results.
Hi
I have serious balding, but short sprouts of hair on the top and typically little bit of hair left on the sides and back. If I use amla powder will it help to grow back the hair on the top and sides.
How often should I use the mixture and what other ingredient do I use the powder with? How long should I keep it on for?
Facial skin:
Because I have naturally very oily skin I find that I break out rather often. Shaving also contributes to the problem, whereby overtime I have found bumps which have now led to small pits. Will Amla powder help to eventually tighten these pores and help close them?
Thanks
Ashley
Thank you for posting Ashley.
Amla powder will help promote hair growth in those areas. I’d recommend adding organic cassia to the recipe as well for thickening and strength.
Keep it on for about 1-2 hours and instructions will come with your products.
Amla is a natural astringent so yes it’ll tighten pore and help clear your face. I hope this helps 🙂
Hi,
I have some acne and with the weather, it’s getting worse.. I find that using amula powder with shirkia and water it helps. Is it OK to use everyday? I know it’s messy but I find that it helps with the bumps..
Hii…
Nice to see ur blog and very delighted to see that u reply promptly to the querries, its some thing really good of u.
I need help for my hair. my hair are falling heavily, have dandruff too, and they turning gray and white. I m just 29 and my hair make me look like old lady of 50+.
Enough i have tried amla+shikakai+reetha, no use. my hair became very dry after using it. since few days i m using bringraj oil, and feels that it has increased the hair fall.
I tried enough hair colour, beet root n all, but nothing worked. i soaked amla in iron vessel overnight, it became rich black, stainned almost everything but not my hair.
now i have read enough abt henna and indigo so planning to try. i m afraid of using lemon with henna, can use amla in place of henna, also shud i go for iron vessel, or any ordinary vessel.
I m a vegan and would not like to use any animal product or animal tested stuff.
Kindly help me out, this is first time i m writting in any blog that too with great hopes.
Thank you
Sophie it is a bit astringent , so just make sure it’s cleansing well and not drying out your skin and moisturize well.
Have you tried our organic cassia or organic henna powder? You can use a regular stainless steel bowl if you prefer. Do you want indigo to make your hair more brown? Just use water or herbal tea, or apple cider vinegar and not lemon juice as it can be drying
My hair is currently jet black from commercial dyes,I am wondering if I can just dye the roots with henna and indigo as a two step process or a one step process to cover the greys and if doing so will result in a different shade from the ends and how often I can do this.I would like to do it every two weeks.
Please let me know if this is too often.I await your timely response.
Hi Shellyann. Yes you can do root touch ups and it might possibly not match. You just have to make sure te recipe you use for your hair matches your length such as two step process for jet black tones
Hey m 24 yrs old and my hair has already started greyin…can using amala paste once in a month solve my prob or r there any better remedies?plz help..
I want to use a mixture of amla, ritha and shikakai to get thick hair…can i mix eggs with them??can i also add castor oil to that mixture to prevent the dryness associated with this?? Does mixing these things lower those herbs efficasy?? N how long do we have to soak these mixture before applying to my hair?? shud i soak it in just plain water or boling water??Plzzzz help!!!
Xiahm unfortunately alma powder alone won’t help but you could use henna and/or indigo to cover grey.
Sarah, yes you can mix eggs in your recipe if you’d like. Allow this recipe to sit in your hair from 1-2 hours. You can mix it and use it right away as eggs are perishable. Enjoy!
I ‘ve been coloring my grey hair with henna and the color turns out bit reddish since my original hair is black ,it is very disturbing and I like to know what should I do to make it blends in with my natural black color. Thanking you for your information
HI Mary. You could add our indigo to your recipe to make it darker and more towards your natural hair color: http://www.hennasooq.com/indigo-for-hair/
Hey,
I bought some gooseberries. Now will someone please tell me how to make it amla powder at home?
Also is it ok to put the fresh amla, de-seed and put into a blender and then take the liquid, strain it and apply the juice directly on the hair every day? How long will the fresh amla paste last in the fridge? Should I freeze the remaining?
Thanks
Hello Rhona
Sorry we don’t personally know or have instructions on making amla powder from fresh gooseberries and I believe once they’re dried out you need a grinder to grind them. Do you have them fresh or dried?
I don’t have information on the use of fresh amla berries either. Most use the powder. Sorry couldn’t be of much help. Google it to find out more. I found this but you can continue to google it as well: http://natural-homemade-beauty-tips.blogspot.com/2009/06/homemade-amla-hair-oil.html
Hi Khadija..thanks for replying. I bought fresh gooseberries and guess I need to sun dry them and them grind them in a small grinder to get the powder..Hmm…
Does any one know where we can buy organic Amla Powder in Bangalore? I have looked in Food world, Health and Glow and Food Bazar. It is not available in any of these food outlets.
Thanks for the link. I read through it 🙂
Rhona
Welcome Rhona. Have you asked any local salons or local peole for amla recipes? I hope you find out more information soon!
Hello Khadija,
I have recently used a temporary (garnier fructis) color rinse on my hair, but I am not happy with the reddish brown tint it has left. Is it ok to use Henna, Indigo and amla over this rinse or do I need to wait awhile?
Secondly, do I mix Henna and Indigo together and apply or do I need to do a henna treatment first, then follow with an Indigo application?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ondria
If you chemically relax your hair, can you use amla as a treatment?
Thanks
Great article. I recenlty purchased amla powder and shakakai and jasmine oil. Not from you, didn’t see your site until today and I bought it all yesterday.
My question is: I had my hair done in ombre (dip dye) with bleach (I know bad me lol) at the beggining of the year. Mostly all cut out now but will amla help tone down the brightness of the blonde left over or could i use a hair dye or chemical toner to calm down the blonde before I use amla shakakai?
Also I don’t want to use henna again because my hair is natrally brown with red untertones and the red from henna makes me always look red in the face. I bought amla because it is said to have an ashy tone to it and that’s what I need.
Thanks 🙂
