There are so many different henna powders, how do we choose the one that will work best for us?
There are a few things that are a must when choosing any henna powder:
–Fresh. You must always buy fresh henna powder. If you want a great stain, don’t just grab henna off the shelf (since who knows how long it may have been sitting there) Even from crop to crop you will notice that the freshest henna powder gives the best stain results. After all, doesn’t a chef use the freshest ingredients in the preparation of our meals?
–Body Art Quality. This means that the henna powder is the best quality since they take the leaves from the top of the plant with the most dye content. It also means that it is 100% pure and natural. This term is usually used to describe henna that is also used for body art.
(Please remember that not EVERY henna powder nor herb is body art quality. Ask yourself this: Is this henna powder or herb used as a body art product or really for hair usage? This term is sometimes only used for marketing purposes. Always be well informed.)
–Finely Sifted. None of that dirt, grit, sand, nor sticks help with getting a great staining henna paste. Even if you try to sift it yourself, you lose most of the henna powder you purchased.
–Pure. Must contain no pesticides or chemicals. No PPD nor any other powders or ingredients. Only get 100% pure henna powder.
Now that we have the basics down, now comes the individual henna powders.
Ultimately the highest dyeing henna powder on the market. For both henna for hair clients, and henna artists, by far the best choice of all henna powders for those wanting gorgeous red tones, grey coverage and long lasting henna body art tattoos. This organically certified henna powder is ready to use within 3-4 hours.
Khadija’s personal favorite: Supreme Blend Henna Powder
This henna powder blend was created by Khadija herself bringing the best henna powders together for a creamy, smooth, yet flowy henna paste. She uses this henna powder on all of her clients. We love this powder especially for body art temporary henna tattoos. Can be used on hair as well. Dye release is only 3-4 hours.
Jamila Henna Powder Jamila henna powder yields great stains results and comes conveniently packaged in 100 grams foil packages in sealed boxes (when it is stamped with summer crop for body art usage, and is also used for hair). As of more recently dye release is only 8-12 hours for body art tattoos, and 3-4 hours for use on hair, before ready to use. It is a reliable henna powder, but not great if you need henna quick. It has the ultimate best sift of ANY henna powder. It is very popular amonst professional henna artists, and for hair dyeing. It washes out of the hair very easily, and the texture pf the paste is similar to melted chocolate. It yields deep reddish-brown tones for body art and for hair orange-red tones. This henna comes from Pakistan.
Please read our more detailed article on Jamila henna powder.
Organic Rajasthani Indian Henna Powder
In ever increasing popularity, the organic indian henna powder from the Rajasthani Region, is very well balanced. You get dye release in 8-12 hours for body art. So you can start a batch in the morning and have it ready by the evening. The stains results are some of the darkest I have ever seen. Typically reddish tones (burgundy/mahogany) and sometimes near cherry black on skin. For hair it yields a reddish-burgundy tone. For hair usage, this powder we recommend you allow it to sit from 3-4 hours, and then apply onto your hair. It is triple sifted and through nylon cloth. On lighter hair it may come out more orange-copper toned.
Yemeni Henna Powder
Note: Sadly this has been out of stock for quite some time due to political issues within Yemen. Our yemeni henna powder comes from the Sana’a region. It takes 8-12 hours to achieve dye release for body art. For hair, we recommend you allow this henna powder to sit from 3-4 hours before applying it. It is well known for being one of the stringy hennas. This henna powder is now much better sifted (since the 2009 crop), since the company has upgraded its henna processing facilities. Now many more henna artists are using this henna powder. It is absolutely one of the most popular henna powders for hair dyeing, and covers grey very well. It gives the most gorgeous, deep red tones of any other henna powder currently.
A very popular henna powder for both body art and hair, this henna is found in the Western Sahara. It has the quickest dye release. It is best to let this henna sit at least 2-6 hours for body art. For hair usage, only allow to sit for a maximum of 1 to 2 hours and then apply it. The dye can demise quickly if left out too long. It’s not a good henna to freeze as a henna paste. It is also a stringy henna. It has great color, usually very bright and becomes quite dark suddenly (on skin). We usually recommend this henna powder for achieving brown to black tones along with indigo, when used in hair dyeing because the least amount of red tones will show through on your hair. We recommend it because it has a fast dye release, and alone on hair it gives orange to red tones.

Thank you! I’m not sure if I understand…do you want to do body art designs on your eyebrows (you mentioned perform) or do you mean apply henna to your eyebrows? Are you looking to draw henna on to create eyebrows? Or to color your eyebrow hairs?
Thank you too Janene. Please keep us updated 🙂
Hey there. I have light reddish brown hair. What would be the best henna to use to achieve a red/ burgundy colour?
Dear Khadijah,
I am 29, black thin hair + hair fall problems.. I would like to have brownish or reddish color to my hair.. which henna do you recommend? Also, if you could please explain to me how to use it for best results..
Thank you very much
Hello! We really recommend our Moroccan henna powder and indigo for hair for best results. The instructions can be found on our blog here:
https://hennablogspot.com/newly-updated-how-to-henna-and-indigo-your-hair/. Products can be purchased online at http://www.hennasooq.com
Hi Samantha. We really recommend our Organic Rajasthani Indian henna from our shop: http://www.hennasooq.com
Hi i starting using henna about a month ago. I have been using zenia brand. My hair is badly damaged due to chemical dye. My normally thick hair has become very thin and was falling out by handfuls. Since using henna i have not been losing as much hair. I have black chemical dye hair but white roots guess my natural hair color is gray now. Anyway i use indigo too. I want my hair to be a copper brown color at some point. I was just wonder what brand you would recommend and what else might help my hair growth and thickness?
Hi Samantha! Great to hear from you! For growth and thickness I really recommend our Sukesh Ayurveda. For the color tone you’d like, do you have a photo of that color you can share?
This is color i like to have. Thankyou so much for responding so fast. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/cf8cc773bfa96e625fa7abfed47894a8d85b35f4015652367005896ee6836601.jpg
Thank you.. But wouldn’t the indigo make my hair darker? Mr hair is already black.. I wanted to add a reddish or brownish color to it..
Welcome. You’re right concerning the indigo. It wouldn’t make your hair darker but I suggested it if you wanted to maintain a brown tone. In general being that your hair is so dark you can probably just use henna alone. Moroccan henna would be great or even our Red Raj.
This tone can be achieved with henna and some indigo. This looks like it may have two tones slightly throughout but you can do some highlighting with the henna and variations to play with the color. You mentioned your hair is grey now. Is all your hair grey or mixed with your natural hair tone as well?
It’s a mix my natural hair color is med to dark brown with reddish tones. But most of my length is chemical dyed black. Just going let that grow out as nothing can cover black and my poor hair can’t handle anymore chemicals.
Should i mix the henna and indigo or use two step process?
Thank you for such quick reply.. I will be purchasing from hennasooq, if you do ship to Mauritius?
Yes absolutely. We ship worldwide.
You’ll do a one step process. Use a small amount of indigo. Probably about only 25% of your whole recipe.
It might also be possible because your hair is pretty dark and some areas black that you would use only henna. Keep us posted as to what you end up trying and your results. 🙂
Hello! My hair is really black and I’m hoping to achieve a dark auburn coppery colour, what would you recommend for me to achieve this color??
I usually mix amla with my henna and then add water and mix and let sit about 12 hours. Is that ok? And how long should i wait after mixing indigo before adding it to henna mixture?
Hi. My hair is on the dark side of med brown and lightened on the ends to a golden brown. I am hoping to get a deep auburn red. I’m not expecting even color all over but would like to avoid bright red hair on my lightest parts. What would you suggest? Thanks.
Hi Jamie! Our organic rajasthani indian henna would be perfect for the tone you’re looking to achieve. Let us know if you have any other questions.
Hi Samantha. That’s usually too long. At least for the henna powders we carry here at Henna Sooq. Because the dye content is so high in the quality we have the dye release is usually max 3-4 hours except for Moroccan henna which is 1-2 hours. The indigo sits 20-30 minutes and then is added to the henna.
Hello Emma. Do you have a photo of the hair tone you’d like that you can attach here? I want to be sure I understand the color you’re aiming for visually. Thanks!
Ok thankyou so much for all of your help. I will do as you suggested. Thankyou so much for helping me understand how to use henna, and indigo. And for responding to all my questions. I am grateful, Thankyou!!!!!!
Welcome!
Ok i will. Thankyou
Hello! Is it true that Neha mehndi powder contains chemicals?
Hi,
I am 14 and I want to dye my hair for the first time. I currently have golden-dirty blonde hair and I want it to be a medium-light shade of red. I am looking for a relatively inexpensive henna; I’m not too picky, I just want one that works and that’s natural and good for my hair. Can someone help me find the right product please?
Thank you!
Good day Jeev. Sorry we’re not familiar with that brand. BUt we do carry pure and organic henna powders on our online site and ship worldwide: http://www.hennasooq.com
HI Aislyn, how are you? I would recommend to start that you try using our Jamila henna powder. YOu can find it here at http://www.hennasooq.com
Hi Khadija!
I just started using henna on my chemically relaxed hair a month ago and oh boy, it has made a HUGH different in the condition of my hair. Before giving henna a try, my hair was dry and brittle and coming out by the hand full. I will never ever use chemical hair dye on my hair again. My hair and self are so very happy. Here’s my question, I used another brand 50/50 henna and indigo and it turned my hair almost black and my grey copper. I would like my hair color to be a chocolate brown or mahogany Brown if there is such a color or way to do that. Can you suggest or advise how I might achieve?
Hi Vickie! Great to hear from you. Sure I would recommend our moroccan henna and indigo and possibly just do the roots with the same proportions or for more of that mahogany you can use our organic rajasthani indian henna.
Hi there
I am using henna on my hair for quite a while now and realised that they are getting really dry these days
Could you please suggest about this. Also pls let me know any good henna powders which I can order from you?
Thanks
Hi Khadija!
I was wondering if you could mix different Hennas together? And if so, how many? I tried Moroccan with cassia and hibiscus tea and it’s just too orange so was thinking of mixing it with red raj or organic Rajasthani Indian or all three since I have so much Moroccan. Really just wanting any red with more of a brown base than an orange. If this is a bad idea please let me know. Or if you have any tips.. I also have rooibos, nettle leaf, sage, marigold, rosemary, and black walnut powders… Or black tea or coffee. I’d appreciate any input you could give! Thank you and have a great day!!
Hi Taylor! Great to hear from you. You could mix any henna powders together you’d like and as many. It’s up to you and the experimentation you want. Have you tried not adding cassia to the moroccan as cassia makes any henna powder more orange or copper toned? What were your proportions?
Black tea and coffee would help. What is your natural hair color?
Hello. All of our henna powders are amazing. We really recommend you read through each one to help you decide on the best one for your hair needs and color results. Our Red Raj is our most popular henna. We recommend you make sure to always add our organic aloe vera powder to your henna recipe for best results and to avoid any dryness.
That’s great!
I thought the cassia was toning down the orange in the Moroccan so, no I haven’t tried yet. I was scared I was gunna look like Lucille Ball, lol. I did 100 grams total. 70% Moroccan 30% Cassia with Aloe Vera and Hibiscus Tea. I diluted it a LOT with conditioner and coconut oil and left it on for 2.5 hours. I need a total of 300 grams with my length, so it has mostly faded back to my dirty blonde. Which I’m glad. It was beautiful, but did not go with my complexion. I need something a little redder and a little browner. Should I try 100% Moroccan with coffee? Thanks for your help!!
Yes try the Moroccan with coffee, and/or amla and indigo possibly. Do a strand test just to be sure before doing all of your hair if you can.
Great, thank you! Is there any type of coffee that works best or brand I should stay away from?
Hi. I’m new to your site. Will be trying your products as soon as they become available(red Raj and or Rajathani) !!! But I just saw the description for Yemeni Henna… Woah, that’s the one I truely want 😯 Do you think it will ever come back ??? And any idea when Red Raj or Rajasthani will be in ??? I’m do for my color, loll as if I’m the only one !!! Thank’s a million ☺
Hello Chantal. Thank you for coming to our site. We don’t know if we’ll be able to get Yemeni henna. There are so many political issues that block us from importing from Yemen. So sad! We have the other henna powders back in stock in 2-3 weeks. Our Organic Rajasthani Indian henna should be in stock. Let us know via customer service at http://www.hennasooq.com if you’re having difficulties with adding it to your cart.
Taylor, by brand not that we’re aware of.
Thank you. Will keep checking for restocking 😊
Welcome!
Hello Khadija. I’m looking to order the Indian Rajasthani(from Canadian site) but it says it’s only available in pre-order ??? But it is available on the States site ??? Also, just wanted to confirm, for a red color, other then the Red Raj, would the Indian Rajasthani be my best bet ??? Thank you 😊
Hello, may I know whether Henna it safe to use during pregnancy? Another question is if I which to have natural black what type of Henna should I buy? Thanks
Hello. It is a safer alternative then using chemicals during your pregnancy but you should always consult your doctor or midwife for their recommendations.
You can use any of our henna powders at http://www.hennasooq.com. It all depends on what color you’d like to achieve. Please view our color chart on our website. I hope this helps.
Hi Chantal. Yes all of our henna powders do color red tones and rajasthani indian henna is one of them. For the Canadian site they are an independent distributor and you’ll have to contact them directly. We only have 10 packages left or possibly only pre-order only at http://www.hennasooq.com.
