Once you have decided on which henna and/or Ayurvedic herbs to use on your hair you’ll also have to determine how much you’ll need to use and purchase from Henna Sooq.
How much you will need depends on your hair length, and thickness. This will give you a generally idea of how much you’ll need for 1 application:
- Above ear length: 50-75 grams
- Shoulder length: 100-125 grams
- Bra strap length or mid-back: 150-175 grams
- Lower back (above hips): 200 to 225 grams
- Hip/Waist length: 250 to 300 grams
When purchasing with Henna Sooq, you can save more when buying for at least 2 applications, as the powders are lowered in price when 200 or more grams are purchased to save you even more.
Happy henna’ing! Keep your hair gorgeous and healthy with henna.
Hello! I would like to dye my hair with Moroccan Henna and mix in additional herbs n oils. I was thinking Shikakai Powder, Amla Powder, Bhringraj Powder, Castor oil, Argan oil and a hibiscus herbal tea as the liquid. How much of these ingredients do a put, my hair is locs to my shoulders. In your opinion is this too many ingredients and will this weaken the dye?
Many thanks in advance for your prompt response and I look forward to hearing back from you shortly.
Yaa Berry
Hi, thank you for your post Yaa Berry. These are a lot of herbs and ingredients but they’re beneficial for sure. If you want to focus on color you have to make sure the majority of the recipe is henna. So add small amounts of the other herbs and ingredients (meaning about 10-15% other ingredients and the rest henna) if you still want to use them with your henna. You would probably need a total of 100 to 125 grams for your hair of total herbs in all to cover all of your hair. If it’s really thick a bit more, possibly 150 grams. If you want to focus on color you can use mainly henna, and then do an herbal treatment afterwards, as an in between treatment. It’s up to you what works best for you and you can decide based on the advice I’ve given here. I hope this helps.
Do I have to leave henna for the specified time in terms of dye release and length of time on hair if I am applying indigo afterwards since I am just using henna for conditioning benefits?
Hi , I am about to purchase Henna and indigo as I am naturally darkest brown/black. Can I mix 50% henna & 50% indigio and apply in on the same time or does this have to be done by the 2 step process ? if 2 step process are they both left on each time for the whole day or longer?
Appreciate your guidance – Thank you Trudy
Thank you for your message on our blog.
For the darkest brown you would use at least 60-70% indigo and the rest henna (30-40%). 50% of each yields a standard medium brown. You can do this as a one step process. If you would like black then you can do a two step process which is henna 100% first as 1 application, and indigo 2nd as a full treatment application.
You wold leave each coloring treatment on for 3-4 hours.
I hope this helps.
Hello! I hope I’ll get an answer soon. I’m planning on dyeing my dreadlocks with henna. I have dyed them with commercial colours for years, so the base colour is red already. They are over my shoulders long. How much Rajashtani would I need? I usually need two packs of commercial dye, if that helps.
