Your gloves that come with your order will also show you a bright orange stain showing you the vibrant dye of your henna paste.
We’ve got an awesome tip on how to check if you henna paste is ready for use. It is fool proof, and ensures the best henna results to both color your hair naturally or use for henna body art designs.
- Once your henna paste is nearing the ending of its dye release time (which can range from 6 to 24 hours, depending on which henna powder you are using), take a little bit of the henna paste and place it onto your palm.
- Allow the paste to sit on your palm for about 1 minute.
- Then wash it off.
- If the stain left by the henna paste is bright pumpkin orange, then you know your henna paste is perfectly ready to use.
- TIPS: Once your paste is ready, you must use it or put it away in the freezer. Too many times have I had people emailing us to tell us something went wrong with their paste, and come to find out they didn’t do the fool proof test nor did they put it into the freezer after it was done (if they needed it for use at a later time). YOU MUST PUT your fresh henna paste into the freezer after it is ready unless you plan on using it right away. This preserves the dye and therefore you can use it again as needed. Fresh henna paste lasts for 6-12 months in the freezer. Please use proper freezer bags or our carrot bags to store your cones or henna paste.

I would like to know the best way to prepare my henna for hair application…roots etc. I have the morrocan..I like the idea of free samples…good idea
I am sampling the Jamilla. As for for storing in the freezer, it seems it is not as dark after I freeze it. Do you have any tips?
Thanks for your comment Jamie
I always store ours in the freezer after I have coned them all up. I place into freezer bags as well for extra protection.
I am not sure why it’s not as dark, but are you putting the cones in your freezer door inside the main part? We use our deep freezers.
I am not sure why it wouldn’t be as dark, because most of our hair clients always mention when they freeze leftovers they seems stronger the second time around.
I had this happen with Jamila. I put it in the back of the freezer and the second time it seemed less effective. That was one reason I quit using henna a few years ago. But now I’ve bought Rajasthani henna and am trying it again 🙂
Just freeze leftovers right away after dye release time, like 3-4 hours. Don’t let it sit out longer then that so that when you freeze it and thaw it, it’ll still have a good amount of dye 🙂
I am new to the work of henna but I love the effects it has on my hair. I do the henna gloss treatment with conditioner. I usually make the paste one day prior to usage. For example, I make it on a Thursday, put it in my hair Friday when I return from work, let it stay in overnight, and then rinse on Saturday morning. After reading your post I am wondering if I should make the paste Friday morning before work instead of the day before. I am actually looking for the conditioning benefits but I consider the coloring an extra added benefit and I love how it looks. Any thoughts on this? I henna at the beginning of every month so I will be doing it next week for the month of September. Your comments are appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Roz. If you’d like more color out of your henna, do try to allow it to dye release within a shorter time frame, such as the needed 3-4 hours or whatever time is required for the henna powder you’re using. I hope this helps

My daughter recently became VERY interested in doing Henna at street fairs and such. Any pointers on how she should go about this? What kind of Henna? Should she pre-mix (make them herself)? Or should she just buy the tubes that are already made for her? Any good books or You-Tube videos she can learn any Henna designs? etc….. Any and all pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your message Sandra. We do carry a whole product like of henna body art products including powders and paste. She can start with paste until she feels confident to mix her own. But getting paste will also give her an idea of what it should look like and how it should stain.
Eventually if she keeps on with henna she should make her own paste and it’s cheaper this way.
We offer training both online and locally. Our website is http://www.hennasooq.com and both of you can get started there. Please let us know if you have any other questions or would like to get workshops and classes schedule for your daughter.:)
I was told that moroccan should not be put in freezer after mixed.
Yes Iola. Moroccan henna doesn’t freeze that well and is better used fresh
