Fun in the Sun on Sunday!

Fun in the Sun on Sunday!

All work and no play makes for a dull Khadija. The kids really wanted to head to Lifetime Fitness to swim but we had a few conditions. All the chores had to be done and we also had to work on our never ending load of laundry. No electronics. Just full concentration on getting our place tidy, and laundry in some type of control. Does laundry make you gonna little bonkers?! After a few whining sessions, we finally tackled the tasks, and got these kids ready to head to the pool. We loaded them up into our Nissan NV Passenger Van (which I love btw!), and promise I’ll blog about the van in a future post, and headed to the gym. I love to swim but I’m lazy about it so I only dipped my feet. The water was so nice. Jamal had come back today from his trip to Connecticut. He went there for a Tang Soo Do karate tournament where he brought a few students from Aqabah karate to compete at. Of course along his way, he couldn’t help but strike a pose. Seemed like a perfect opportunity to take a pic of the henna on my hand with our anniversary iwatches. Good to have boo home! What did you do...

When you Decided to Start Your Own Business

When you Decided to Start Your Own Business

Back in 2005, I was re-discovering henna in Montreal through a henna body art workshop with a well known professional henna artist. It was a really great class, and I took what I liked and turned it into my own. I tend to do that with all things. I take what I like from each and turn it into my own. Throughout my journey and like life, I was learning hard lessons from different experiences. They all made me into who I am today, and I continue to evolve and discover things about myself. Back in 2005, myself and Jamal had four children: Isa, Ali, Mariyah and Abdullah. All were 6 and under. Those were really tough years with having so many young children, and we weren’t even done yet. Adeeb and Matinah came in the next 2 years, during our early business years 🙂 That September I decided to start Henna Sooq. My decision came through a love for henna, and to bring a shop to Canada. There weren’t many henna companies in Canada, so the market was wide open. I bought my .com (one of several I ended up purchasing), and I now owned my own piece of property. Finding a web designer was really difficult but another henna artist Amira helped us set our first website up. So we made our first sale! I never forget Catherine M., who still orders with us to this day. Love you girl! This where the journey began. Here are some things I’ve learned along the way: 5+ Years. If you plan to keep your business going for more then...

Happy Daddy’s Day Jamal!

Happy Daddy’s Day Jamal!

When I met Jamal, I instantly liked him. I remember when an Auntie called me at work, and told me he was there to meet me. She said: “He’s cute!” LOL! It’s been a really cool journey with my boo, and he’s an awesome daddy! We have 6 beautiful children together. It may seem like a lot of kids, but it’s just right for us. I wouldn’t change anything. Also want to give a shout out to the big daddy Pender! Gotta love his fro. My dad has been gone since I was 24 years old. It’s crazy how time just slips away, and it hurts that he’s a distant memory. He was a well known club DJ: DJ Lance Romance. He had thousands of records. He knew how to strip a bike down, fix it and turn it into a brand new bike. He was there for me, and chose to stay to raise me. I couldn’t have wanted anything more. He immigrated to Montreal, when he was just 16, from Guyana. I remember our Sunday breakfasts by his sister’s home. He definitely helped me to become the woman and mother I am today. I’ll never forget when he told me back years ago when Google had just started, that it was going to be a BIG thing. He was right. How I wish we would have invested in Google back then! Darn it. He was had a way of knowing what was going to be the next big thing. To all the daddy’s out there, thank you for being there for your kids, and working so hard....

Team Mom Prepared to take down Cancer

Team Mom Prepared to take down Cancer

I’m very active in all of the sports our kids take part in (many of you follow me on IG and can see what a busy mommy I am). I feel especially connected to Team Mom, Misty Lourenco due to their strength, her family values, and we just both love wrestling, and football. “Wrestlers tend to be tough, and that includes more than just the athletes. Consider Misty Lourenco, USA Wrestling’s state chairperson in Rhode Island and a youth sports leader in the Warwick, R.I. community. When Misty was first informed by her surgeon that the pain in her foot was caused by a rare bone cancer, Misty’s reaction was not what you might expect.” In her own words: “Cancer does not have to be the end of your life. It’s a bump in the road, an inconvenience. It’s something you have to get through and realize that when you get to the end of this road, you are going to be fine. It has crossed my mind that it could be the worst thing, but I don’t let it stay in my mind. I move on and I ask what do I have to do. I have control over this. All I need are positive thoughts and prayers and I will be just fine,” she said. Read more…  ...
