When it comes to natural hair care treatments, and hair loss, bhringraj is the first herb to be recommended. It is one of the most distinguished herbs in ayurvedic medicine. It also has a calming affect, which helps promote a good, and well rested sleep.
At Henna Sooq you can now purchased our Bhringraj Powder.
The benefits of using bhringraj:
- Helps prevent hair loss
- Stops premature greying
- Affective against skin allergies (can be used in body product recipes, such as in our Cocoveda Products)
- Helps control and get rid of dandruff
Recommended methods of using this herb:
- You can make a hot water infusion with this herb, and other ayurvedic herbs such as shikakai, amla, brahmi, and others of your choice. Steep them for about 3-4 minutes, and then strain. Use the liquid as a hair rinse after you shampoo and/or condition your hair. Rinse it all out really well. This is best used directly in the shower as it can run. You can also leave this in if you wrap it tightly with a shower cap. Leave this in for about 30 minutes to an hour
- When using your favorite conditioner, you can make an ayurvedic herbal gloss. Apply this all over your hair, by sections and then place a shower cap on, or saran wrap. Leave this on for 30 minutes to an hour.
- Prepare this herb as a paste (you can add any other ayurvedic herbs as you’d like), and use it in place of your shampoo. This paste cane be made with a tea brew, or just warm water. You can then wash it out, and then condition (deep, leave in conditioner depending on your hair type) afterwards.
- Create an amazing hair oil infusion. You can add 2 parts of your favorite hair oils, to one part of herbs of your choice. Allow to steep naturally for at least 4-5 days or more depending on the herbs you use. Some herbs are tougher, and need more fusion time, such as horsetail. If you’d like to speed it up, and we use this method personally, is use a crock pot to allow the oil and herbs to steep at warm temperature for 24-36 hours. Then turn it off, and allow it to sit for another 24-36 hours. Strain in a nylon stocking. I let this actually hang, and slowly drip for the next 24 hours. The I squeeze what I can out afterwards (from out of the stocking). I then pour the oil infusion into an applicator bottle, or squeeze bottle. Keep this stored in a cool, dark place.

Hello, K. I have two questions:
1. When using the Bhringraj as a rinse, do I pour it over my hair after shampoo/condition, and then rinse it out well with water? If this is the case, it doesn’t stay long in my hair, so how will my scalp and hair roots benefit?
2. If I use it as a paste instead of my shampoo, will it clog my drain after I wash it out?
Thank you.
Hi Eliz. Yes using the rinse after you wash it would be better. Leave the rinse on your hair even though it will be runny but it will cling to your hair, and then you rinse it out.
It shouldn’t clog your drain, but it is possible with anything you put down your sink or piping that may be too thick. it’s never happened with us, but you may want to use lots of extra water to thin it out.
Hi. I made a paste/hair mask treatment: 2 large TBS of Amla; 1 TBS of Brahmi; 1 TBS of Bhringraj; 1/2 TBS Shikakai; little honey; some hennasooq camillia oil, and chamomile tea brew for the water mixing. I gently brushed onto root/scalp area and down the hair shaft about 3 inches. I did a conditioner & amla gloss on the length. I left this on for about 30-45 minutes under a shower cap. I conditioned after rinsing and did a light ACV rinse finally. Does this sound okay and beneficial way to use these herbs? Thank you.
SCW, Absolutely. I think it really sounds like an amazing recipe. Keep us posted as to your progress and what changes you see or don’t see.
So far I am really liking the herbs, combinations I have tried with oils and henna; as well as loving the above recipe I have done once, and will do again this week. Can you please advise a good and most gentle comb to use, or other tools excellent for being extra gentle to the hair while attempting to strengthen the roots and hair length; while not causing hair loss. Thank you!
SCW, a good brush or comb..hhmm this really depends on your hair type. I don’t sell brushes and use only what we like so not sure if they would be a good choice for you. But remind me of what your hair is like so I can recommend something that might work.
I have mid-back length and growing, very fine and wavy that I am trying to nurture back into health after some loss, and years of chemical dyeing. Thank you.
SCW, For very fine hair you may need a gentle comb or brush. Something that won’t snag your hair. Maybe more so a comb. Do you have a beauty supply store near you? You’d probably get better advice from them directly, as we don’t have fine hair personally as a family, and our brushes are a bit more heavier. We use Jean Pierre or similar brushes, since Jean Pierre is very hard to find now, out of Ulta Beauty Store down here in MD. I also like combs, wide toothed as it’s great for curly hair. I hope this helps some.
I’ve read that Bhringraj helps and “cures” Alopecia. Is this true? my dauger has Alopecia Areate and I am looking to use this on her.
Would this and Brhami be best used on her?
Also, thanks for answering my last question so quickly!!
I can’t make any medical claims (as I’ve never researched it as a cure for that) but I know it does help, and the one thing I have concern about is that alopecia is genetic meaning that it is part of the person and not sure if I have ever heard it makes it go away. You could use it on her for her. It’ll give her a lot of strength and also moisturize. Camellia is great for promoting hair growth.
Hi, Khadija,
I recently went back to Aveda chemical highlights because as much as I love your henna, it doesn’t lighten my very black hair. I would love to continue using henna, though because it made my hair very thick the last four times I henna’ed.
When making a paste out of Bhringraj powder and water/tea, can I add any of your henna powders without waiting for dye release to benefit from Henna’s conditioning properties? I plan to leave the paste for an hour on my hair.
Hello Eliz, absolutely we understand. Some do lighten their hair and then use the henna products from there as well. So it’s okay to use lighteners/chemicals and pure henna and herbs.WOW that thick, that’s beautiful!!
Yes you can add henna powder without waiting for dye release if you prefer but it might color your hair still especially since it’s lighter then before. An hour is fine. But if you don’t want color and all the benefits of henna you can and I’d recommend you use cassia obovata for future use. Enjoy!
can i take Bhringraj powder oraly and will it stop my hairfall?
Good day Kunal. We can’t answer that question as none of our own products are to be taken orally. It is not permitted to do so as these are for external use on hair only. These are our products to be used directly on the hair only: http://www.hennasooq.com
I wash my only once a week. I usually put coconut oil as a prepoo before I go to work and then when I come home I wash my hair. Can I leave the bhringraj oil on for long periods of time? 9 hours? Thank you I. advance 🙂
Chevon thank you for your post. Leaving it in your hair for long periods of time should work fine. The best way to know for sure is if you give it a try to see. You can then decide if your hair likes that oil. I hope this helps.
Hello. Just so I understand correctly, you want to leave in the bhringraj infusion on your hair rather then rinse it out?
yes correct.
You can leave it in as long as you don’t leave any of the actual herb in your hair. The infusion should be fine. But see how your hair reacts.
