Do Your Thing: “I wear my clothes like this because I can. I wear my hair like this because I can. I walk around like this because I can. I do my thing like this because it’s who I am. If you’re expecting me to give you an apology for being nothing like you’re used to, then hold your breath and concentrate. Keep holding until your face turns blue.” By Estelle.
Did you know that owners Khadija and Jamal started Henna Sooq with no loans, no interest, and all with their own income? That our business grew into what it is today with love and passion? There was no plan and Henna Sooq just naturally became what it is today, and is still growing strong.
With over 10,000 clients, and hundreds of orders coming in and out, we offer our clients a unique product, and our service is impeccable. Our product line stems from the products we love, and we listen to every product suggestion our clients give to us. Clients know we’re here for them, and it’s all about them! We wouldn’t be here without YOU!
I, Khadija, have been naturally caring for my with henna for over 10 years. One year I decided to take a henna body art workshop with a professional henna artist, where I became completely hooked on henna. With young children, and babies milling all around me, I began to study henna even further, and the drive within me began. I’ve always wanted to do something for myself but everyone knows with babies, and young children it’s hard to find compatible work, that is both satisfying, and brings home enough to bring in a profit. No one wants to work just to pay for daycare, and we decided we didn’t want to have our kids in daycare anyhow. We started homeschooling for a few years as well, and all during this time was still studying and learning about henna, and all aspects of it.
When the kids ended up going off to school, then Henna Sooq became a bigger focus as there was more time at home, but always still little babies were coming. We have 6 children now. Our oldest is 12, and our youngest is 3.
Henna Sooq started as a home based business, and this enables us to be with our children. Jamal still works a full time job as he always has, and I work most of my hours here at Henna Sooq. Our goal is to eventually have our own space with an office, and warehouse, where we can see clients, and create more products, and grow our business.
We only started with but 5 kilograms of henna powder, and now look! We’re importing in hundreds of kilograms a year, and our stock weighs way over a ton, literally. Now that’s a lot of henna, and ayurvedic herbs.
