Here’s Rena’s story:
“I cut my hair down to less than inch exactly one year ago. My hair used to be very long, but it had chemicals. I cut my hair so I could get my natural curls back and I’m loving it!!!
My hair regimen:
I shampoo my hair with Shea Moisture organic raw shea butter moisture retention shampoo. I shampoo once a week. Sometimes I shampoo every week and a half. I don’t shampoo my hair often because I don’t use a lot of products that need to be washed out.
I co-wash with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration. I do this about twice a week depending on what products I use. If I use my Ecostyler olive oil gel, I will co-wash. I mostly use the Ecostyler for my wash-n-gos. Sometimes I use Mixed Chicks leave-in condition for my wash-n-gos. It depends on the look I’m going for. MC leaves my hair with a wet look all day!!! Both the Ecostyler and MC define my curls.
As far as oils, I have a concoction of various oils in a bottle – olive, castor, jojoba, rosemary, and almond oils. I coat my hair with that when I use the Ecostyler so that my hair doesn’t get hard. Can’t forget the shea butter!!! That is a must have!!
Recently, I have been twisting my hair at night and untwisting in the mornings. My hair is still rather short (longest part being 6 inches), so it is difficult to find protective styles.
I did the rajasthani henna once and I LOVE the results. It loosened my curls but the color is lovely!!!!! I mixed it with water, a little lemon juice, honey, cinnamon and olive oil. I let it sit in my hair for 3 hours and then washed it out with conditioner. I am very pleased.
I keep it pretty simple. I used to buy a lot of products and it got really expensive. No more of that!!! Time to keep it simple!!

Rena, you are beautiful and I love your hair!!! I applaud you for doing a big chop without a long transition. Sometimes it is hard to do if you have been accustomed to long hair.
