3 Cancelled Flights, Two Airports and Two Airlines

3 Cancelled Flights, Two Airports and Two Airlines

So my day began just like any other day or so I thought. The plan was to head to Montreal catching a 6am flight with Delta, this past Thursday from BWI. I had several personal things to take care of today along with taking care of the plans for this Saturday’s Henna and Chai event. Plus it’s my mom’s birthday and I was taking some time out to spend with her. I was really looking forward to this trip. I don’t really get much time off. As I sat waiting for my Delta flight to Detroit (catching a connecting flight to Montreal) I could hear the staff whisper amongst themselves about how the flight was overbooked. I was waiting to get my assigned seat. As we sat there waiting our flight proceeded to take off and leave several of us behind. Literally it just left without us and the Delta staff didn’t say a word ahead of time to prepare us. Myself and the other passengers were extremely upset. Delta didn’t give us a heads up where some of us could have made other arrangements. I knew there were other possible flights on other airlines when I had looked it up and now I was stuck figuring out how to arrange myself and all the appointments I had today. Delta also had my bag as I had checked it in. That bag contains all of my clothes, toiletries, gifts, henna and jagua paste and orders that clients had made. What would happen to my bag? I needed it even if I could catch another flight to Montreal. Thank goodness...

2 Cities in 10 Days

2 Cities in 10 Days

Talk about traveling with the whole family (yes all 6 kids) in our big “Tran” (it fits 12) and all of our things including some handmade gifts. What a trip. We had so much fun. Driving from Maryland to Toronto took us about 9 hours. We left really early so we made very few stops. Plus we were still fasting so need to stop for food. We saw the beautiful wind mills on the way up and once we hit the border it was awesome to see the Canadian flag. My best friend, Salimah, has her own midwifery clinic in Brampton, Ontario called AMMA Midwives. She also makes a delicious homemade Lovenade which is an lavender infused lemonade that is sold at Modah in Mississauga, ON. We celebrated Eid with Salimah and her family. Everyone looked really nice. We took the kids out to several places to have fun. Their first elephant ride! I took some time out to do a mini photoshoot at a waterfall in Hamilton. A little unfortunate mishap was when someone hit our vehicle while it was parked and all the kids were in the car. That big passenger van moved too when it was struck. I was so mad. Luckily all ended well. We ran our Henna Event & Social at Modah on July 9th where I got to meet some of the fabulous Toronto area henna artists and got to see family. I haven’t seen my Aunty Joan in many years and my cousin even longer. It was so amazing seeing them and getting to do henna for them! My Aunty Joan is...

My Side Hustle: Wrestling Mom

My Side Hustle: Wrestling Mom

Should you not have already noticed…I have a little bit of a side hustle going on. It’s true. I’m a Wrestling Mom. Wrestling came to us by chance. It was definitely not on my list of sports I thought my kids would want to do or that we’d be involved in. When our 9 year old, Adeeb was playing tackle football we were trying to decide on off season sports that would compliment football and wrestling came up. So I signed him up and decided to add our two big boys to the activity. All pretty much at the last minute. When the big boys found out that we had signed them up they had a teenage tantrum (they were both in 8th grade at the time). I was telling myself: “I’m not going to get a refund now. Oh my goodness. Let’s try one class and let’s see…” So I brought their cranky selves to the wrestling class and to  my surprise these kids were awesome! I was so impressed that we celebrated with a treat afterwards. Now fast forward to today 2016. Still going strong, our boys and now our daughter Matinah are wrestling. We’ve been with our coach, Brian Leitzel for 3 seasons. He’s an amazing coach, teacher and person. He’s a division 1 (Loch Haven University) All-American wrestler who was also on the same team with Cary Kolat. Coach Jamal Pender (dad), World Champion Kyle Snyder, and Coach Brian Leitzel at our studio September 2015. Meet Isa Isa has been through a lot. He has had some real struggles as a teen. I always knew...
