Chime has a really great youtube channel (please visit her channel: Hair Crush) that I just discovered today. Her hair is gorgeous, and I really liked how she presented her videos. Very easy to follow, and down to earth.

“THE HISTORY OF BLACK HAIR”

From Chime: “Hey y’all! I decided to do this video because a lot of Black people don’t know the history of Black hair and the significance it held in Africa. I learned some new things as I researched and it made me feel proud to discover more about our history. Efforts are made to erase our culture and connection to Africa so we must do our part to educate ourselves and each other to keep it alive. This is probably the longest I’ve ever worked on a video and the hardest lol! It was really important to me that I posted this and got it right so I hope you guys enjoy it!:) Don’t forget to share this with a friend! Peace & Blessings”

She also has a henna tutorial video with pros and cons.

My feedback on the henna tutorial video:

  • Love all the pros! Awesome.
  • I love how Chime sections her hair, and that makes the application go on so much easier.
  • Please don’t use boiling water. Always use warm to hot (in between) to get best dye release.
  • Yes, henna can loosen your curl pattern. Easy fix! Add amla powder to your recipe or use amla after your henna treatment to maintain curls.
  • It can also be drying. Another easy fix, just add your favorite hair oil to your recipe, or pre-oil. Definitely moisturize afterwards.
  • Henna treatments can take longer then chemical color treatments. For natural methods I would personally expect this.
  • Even personally I’m not down with henna color blends. You always get maximum color results from using your henna and herbs separately, and then combine as needed.
  • For black tones, henna and indigo as a two step is the best method and coverage.

What were some of your experiences when you first starting using henna?
