I just wanted to say thank you. I became interested in henna when I was very young and bought pastes from a local Indian market… needless to say, I got horrible stains and it was clumpy as heck, so I never used it again despite my love of it. So I stuck with my longtime medium as an artist: the good ole trusty pencil. I don’t even remember why, but in the past couple weeks, I was reminded of henna and felt the urge to try again. Some new features we are working on:

• USD will be our default currency on the shop, but we are adding CAD as our latest integration on the system. So now clients can choose to pay with either USD or CAD. The exchange rate will reflect different prices as well. We are still working on this and it currently is not working as smoothly as we’d like, but we’re doing our best!
• Shipping is being calculate within the shopping system now, and not automatically with paypal. It gives us all a better understanding of what is going on before we decide to continue to pay.
• Ontario residents will notice that they are now being charged 8% PST on their orders. This is also a new addition as we are a registered business in the province of Ontario.

Budokon is Back!

Location: Lululemon Athletica Scarborough Town Centre

We will be holding a Budokon class in our store on Sunday, August 3rd from 8:30am-9:30am, right before our regular Sunday, morning yoga class at 9:30am.

What is Budokon?

The Budokon physical practice draws upon ancient and modern yogic and martial arts styles. The foundation of the Budokon physical practice is precision, alignment and Zen mind. All Budokon techniques are designed to explore the body’s full range of motion. The practice dances between agility, control, speed, power, balance and flow. The physical practice is divided into two themes: The Yogic Series, and the Budo Series. Both themes constantly draw from and depend on each other. The Budokon Yogic Series was heavily influenced by Iyengar and Ashtanga yogic techniques and alignment. The focus is on control, calm, power and precision. These techniques are uniquely different from traditional Hatha Yoga in the sense that they not only work to improve range of motion and strength, but they also explore the body’s ability to sustain another person’s body weight.

There are a few aftercare henna balms out there, so our recipe had to be unique, and different. I picked some really good quality ingredients, and began experimenting on what turned out to be our Henna Sooq balm recipe. Finally decided on using premium canadian beeswax (100% pure), cocoa butter (100% natural and from Ghana), mango butter (from India, and extracted from the seeds of this exotic fruit), pure virgin olive oil, and maple vanilla fragrant oil.

It really smells so good!! It helps protect your henna design from chlorine when swimming (as chlorine can cause the design to fade much quicker), and from general use of water. It also deepends the color of the design, and makes it last longer.

This gig was for Forbes Chochla LLP’s (law firm) summer BBQ. It was Hawaiian themed. Everyone chose very nice designs, as can be seen below (some of them). It was a great opening for us here in Toronto. I am still getting used to how far everything is from each other, and all the different areas. Slowly but surely.

So I thank everyone at this summer BBQ for having me, and for being patient. Nice to have met all of you!

I want to say to each and every last one of you a BIG thank you! All of you have been extremely patient during this time for these big changes going on in my life. New baby, moving! It’s all a whole lot. We had to also organize the inventory during the move, and finally got that done! So all is back to usual. Well just about. I still have some boxes left in the kids room. So I am working on that too.

Problem: I am still having an issue with one client. I mentionned it some time back in the blog, and it is still going on. The client doesn’t really respond to me, or at least hasn’t recently, when sent emails.  They filed a chargeback with paypal to get all their funds returned to them. It makes me feel like our return policy is worth nothing. I have it on the website for a reason. That being, that these are the terms in which I and the client agree to when they make a purchase. They are claiming that the products were defective or not as described.
I tried to explain to the client about the herbal products, as I felt they didn’t understand or have any prior experience with them. Like for one, different herbal powders have different weights. That is common sense if we sit down and think about it. For one, some are leaves and some are from nuts/fruit from the plants. So therefore, the herbs will have different weights and that means the quantities won’t be equal. Like feathers are to stones.
Many of you who know me, and have had experience with myself and the Henna Sooq, know that I don’t mess around, am not dishonest, and have a high quality herbal product. What I want for myself, is what I want for others.
All I want out of this situation is that, one, the client returns the products to me, as they have not done so. Secondly, that I will refund the amount of the products purchased, and shipping is not included in this. Shipping costs money, and unfortunately I just can’t cover that. It’s in the policy and is the policy of MOST henna distributors. Even when a major supplier of ours sends us product that comes damaged, chances are I HAVE TO pay to get the good stock sent to me again to replace the damaged goods.
Fortunately, I have not been bad mouthed anywhere online concerning this, as far as I am aware of. What I feel is that this client really just wanted to get some free products out of us because is my opnion, if they really didn’t like the products they would have sent them right back to us. This order was placed a long time ago, in April 2008.
I feel like making a petition of clients, and sending that to paypal so they can fight the credit card company and client harder for me. I know paypal is trying their best. My record with paypal shows that alone.

Lastly: My goal is to change Henna Sooq’s currency to Canadian dollars (CAD) because it just makes so much more sense since it looks like we are in fact settling down here in Canada at this time, and it makes doing all that book keeping so much easier. Plus, we are now charging clients 7% Ontario PST as well. This all has to be done in CAD. I am going to work out a good shopping system, that can work that out better then this one currently. Prices should not change, unless the exchange rate does so. Most of our stock is purchased in USD, so we have to keep that all balanced.
